studioSML is headed by Andrew Merlo and Spencer Lepler.
Andrew Merlo has been working in Washington DC for 3 years, focusing on mixed use urban design. As a professional designer, Mr. Merlo has been involved in large scale projects totaling over $800 million dollars. He has a proven track record of working with clients, consultants, and other professionals in successfully completing large, complex, urban projects. In addition, he has received several design awards and has had his urban planning work internationally recognized. Mr. Merlo received his architectural education from The Pennsylvania State University.
Spencer Lepler, AIA, NCARB has been working in the Washington, DC area for the past 5 years and concentrating on all aspects of public works, residential and government projects. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Certificate of Preservation Studies from Tulane University. Mr. Lepler has written architecture criticism for DCMetrocentric.com and Greater Greater Washington; he maintains his own architecture and design blog at selophane.com. In addition to his work in Architecture, Mr. Lepler has worked as a layout editor for a newspaper, performed freelance graphic design services and served on the Board of Directors for Dominion Stage of Arlington, Virginia.
